Junsoo Hur is a professor in the School of Social Welfare and the director of the Aging Research Center at Soongsil University in Seoul, Korea. He has been appointed and served on several academic associations, community boards, and national committees in Korea. He is currently the chairperson of the national education and training committee for the Korea Association of Social Workers (KASW), the director of research for the Korean Academy of Long-term Care and a committee member of the National Evaluation Committee for Long-term Care Insurance for the Elderly, the board of directors for the Korean Society of Welfare for the Aged and the Korean Gerontological Society. He previously served as director of Soongsil University’s Social Welfare Research Center and Volunteer Service Center, and is the former chairperson of the Human Rights Committee for KASW. His major research interests are gerontological social work, the development and evaluation of social services for older populations, international community development, and volunteerism. He is the author of many peer-reviewed journal articles and books, and has received funding for his research from many government and private sources. He received an international visiting fellowship from Martha N. Ozawa Center for Social Studies, Brown School of Social Work at Washington University. He earned his MSW in the George Warren Brown School of Social Work at Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri, and his PhD in Social Welfare from the School of Social Welfare at the State University of New York, Albany, New York.
