The Gerontological Society of America (GSA), the nation’s largest interdisciplinary organization devoted to the field of aging, has elected Anne Katz, a clinical professor at the USC Edward R. Roybal Institute on Aging and the USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work, as a fellow in its behavioral and social sciences section.
GSA named 72 exemplary professionals as its newest fellows for 2017.
The status of fellow is the highest class of membership within GSA. It is an acknowledgment of outstanding and continuing work in gerontology.
For over 20 years, she was the co-director of the USC Tingstad Older Adult Counseling Center. Her research interests include: aging in prison, HIV/AIDS and older adults, women’s issues and aging, caregiver stress and counseling older adults. In 2011, Katz received The Rose Dobrof Award for her article titled “Keeping Your Eye on the Process: Body Image, Older Women, and Countertransference” that published in the Journal of Gerontological Social Work. In 2012, she received the Master Field Instruction Award, awarded by the school in recognition and appreciation of excellence in field education, outstanding leadership and special contributions to the field of social work. In 2013, she received the Heart of Social Work Award for providing outstanding, innovative service to the school, through field education, collaboration and teaching.
