Roybal Senior Scientist Yuri Jang is the recipient of the Gerontological Society of America (GSA) 2018 Minority Mentorship Award.
GSA is the nation’s largest interdisciplinary organization devoted to the field of aging. The annual honor is given to a scholar who exemplifies outstanding commitment and dedication to mentoring minority researchers in the field of aging. In her 15 years as a faculty member, Jang has mentored over 30 emerging scholars including five doctoral students as chair and five post‐doctoral fellows. The award will be presented at GSA’s 2018 Annual Scientific Meeting, which will be held from November 14–18 in Boston, Massachusetts.
Jang is a past recipient of GSA’s Emerging Scholar and Professional Organization Interdisciplinary Paper Award and Minority Fellowship. She currently holds the office of GSA secretary and is a GSA fellow—the highest category of membership within the organization.
Jang is now professor at the USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work. She was previously affiliated with the University of Texas at Austin and the University of South Florida.
