About the USC School of Social Work

The USC School of Social Work is recognized as one of the most innovative in the nation. Our research environment is vibrant, interdisciplinary, and highly supported. We provide intellectual leadership in the areas of behavioral health; child and family systems; aging; organizations and policy transformation; social work in non-profit, governmental and private sector contexts; housing insecurity; serious mental illness; and military health. Our transformative approach to virtual instruction is recognized as groundbreaking. Our commitment to advancing the science of social work has generated a new dialogue throughout the profession.

Adults and Healthy Aging

The Department of Adults and Healthy Aging is one of four departments in the School of Social Work. The department is focused on enhancing the mental health and physical well-being of young adults to seniors. Current scholarly foci include: mental health, behavioral health care, aging, homelessness and housing security, substance use and recovery, integrated health care, and intervention science and service innovations.

Qualifications Sought

The Department of Adults and Healthy Aging seeks applications for tenure-track faculty positions at the assistant professor level. Applicants must have a PhD degree in social work, social welfare, or a related field. Qualifications also include a master’s degree in social work, and at least two years postgraduate (MSW or PhD) direct practice experience is preferred in health and mental health settings. We expect high potential for scholarly activity, external research support, and ability to collaborate across disciplines.

Priority is given to applicants with academic interests and expertise in three areas: (1) integrated health care services; (2) evidence-based practice with adults or older adults; and (3) mental health and health policy.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience conducting community-based research
  • A record of seeking external funding to support a program of research
  • A record of first- or co-authored publications in peer-reviewed scholarly journals
  • Teaching experience at the graduate level and the ability to teach in one or more of the following MSW curriculum areas: behavioral health and clinical practice; human behavior theory; policy practice; research methods; or direct practice with adults, families, and groups.
  • A strong background in evidence-based practice for serious mental illness and substance use among adults or older adults.

In keeping with our commitment to diversity, we seek faculty members who have strong scholarship profiles involving Latino, Asian or Pacific Islander, African American, or First Nations populations.

Other applicants with exceptionally strong credentials outside these priority or preferred areas will be considered.
