Ann Nguyen, a postdoctoral scholar at the USC Edward R. Roybal Institute on Aging, was recognized with the Award for Early Career Excellence in Research by the Program for Research on Black Americans at the University of Michigan’s Institute for Social Research. The honor was given to Nguyen in recognition of her significant contributions to scholarship on the mental health of African Americans and Caribbean Blacks in the United States.
The Program for Research on Black Americans was established in 1976 at the University of Michigan’s Institute for Social Research by an interdisciplinary team of social scientists. It seeks to collect, analyze and interpret empirical data on African Americans as well as international data on people of African descent. A second important goal is to provide research and training opportunities for social scientists and students of color.
