April 20, 2024 – Earvin Magic Johnson Recreation Area, Los Angeles

In 2022, Maria P. Aranda, PhD was awarded a four-year two-million-dollar grant by the California Department of Public Health Chronic Disease Control Branch, Alzheimer’s Disease Program (contract #22-10903). The project’s overall objective was to test the efficacy and effectiveness of psychoeducational and skill-building interventions for family caregivers of persons living with dementia in California.

Our primary research study partner included Alzheimer’s Los Angeles and many other community partners who supported our efforts through the last four years.

Part of the study project entailed disseminating our study findings to study participants who gave unselfishly of their time and insights to participate in the intervention classes and research activities. Dissemination is also a demonstration of “giving back” to our participants and the communities that they represent.

Towards this goal, a dissemination event titled, “USC Southern California Caregiver Study Celebration Event” took place on April 20, 2024 at the Earvin Magic Johnson Recreation Area, Los Angeles. A total of 90 participants attended the event.

The purpose of the celebration event was to 1) honor our caregiver participants, and community research partners, 2) present our study findings, 3) provide information and education about community resources, and 4) instill the importance of future research participation in dementia, aging, caregiving, and brain health studies.
