William A. VegaWilliam Vega, USC provost professor and executive director of the USC Edward R. Roybal Institute on Aging, has joined the Medical & Scientific Advisory Council of the Alzheimer’s Association California Southland Chapter. Other USC faculty on the council include Helena Chui, Caleb Finch, Margaret Gatz, Laura Mosqueda, and Kathleen H. Wilber.

The Alzheimer’s Association California Southland Chapter assists people with Alzheimer’s and their families and educates the public about Alzheimer’s disease through a variety of diverse programs and services. The organization serves diverse counties of Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, Inyo, Kings, Mono and Tulare.


Karen D. LincolnKaren Lincoln, associate professor at the USC School of Social Work and senior scientist with the USC Roybal Institute, will join the editorial board of the Journal of Health and Social Behavior. The journal is considered one of the top medical sociology journals in the United States.

The Journal of Health and Social Behavior publishes empirical and theoretical articles that apply sociological concepts and methods to the understanding of health and illness and the organization of medicine and health care. Its editorial policy favors manuscripts that are grounded in important theoretical issues in medical sociology or the sociology of mental health and that advance theoretical understanding of the processes by which social factors and human health are inter-related.


Donald A. LloydDonald Lloyd, research associate professor at the USC Roybal Institute, has joined the Community Advisory Board for the Diabetes Prevention Program of the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles. The Diabetes Prevention Program is part of the Centers for Disease Control Diabetes Prevention program and endorsed by the Diabetes Prevention and Control Alliance.

The YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles puts Judeo-Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. There are 25 LA Y’s branches across Los Angeles County.
