Seeking volunteers to participate in a research study for persons caring for family members with memory loss, dementia, or Alzheimer’s

The University of Southern California is conducting a research study for family members caring for someone with memory loss, dementia, or Alzheimer’s disease.

The purpose of the study is to test two different types of classes for family caregivers, and to see if one or both are just as beneficial in helping caregivers care for a family member with memory loss. The names of the classes are Savvy Caregiver Program and Savvy Caregiver Express.

Participation is voluntary, at no cost, and any services you use will not be affected. If you consent to participate in the study, you will be expected to complete the following:

  1. 1 initial interview, and 3 follow-up interviews over 7 months but not beyond 6/30/2022. Each interview lasts about 30 minutes.
  2. Online Webinar caregiver classes – either the 3-week or 6-week version meets once per week for about 2 hours each week. You will be randomized to one of the two types of classes with other caregivers who decide to be in the study. The classes are offered online for caregivers to participate from the comfort of their home.
  3. 1 focus group lasting about 1 hour (for only 10% of our participants)

To be eligible to participate you must be:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • caring for an adult with memory loss, dementia, or Alzheimer’s disease
  • able to read English
  • able to participate in online in classes using a tablet or computer

Participants will be compensated $20 for every interview completed–up to $80, or $100 if they participate in the focus group. No payments will be made after June 30, 2022. Information obtained about participants is confidential.

If you are over 18, able to read English, and can attend online classes, call: 213-740-1887 or click here to fill out a permission to contact form.
